OUR HISTORY

Built on a family legacy of proud steamfitters dating back to over 100 years, Heritage Mechanical was established in 2012 to provide quality mechanical service to the commercial construction industry. Opening its doors with only three employees and a master plan, the company has since grown rapidly to become one of the fastest growing mechanical construction firms serving the DMV.

We are recognized as a collaborative partner and dependable team member promoting positive leadership to achieve project success. Employees, clients and subcontractors are selected based on the principals of integrity, trust and commitment to this mission.

Heritage Mechanical is a mechanical and plumbing contractor based in Crofton, Maryland. We specialize in building large commercial and institutional facilities across the mid-Atlantic including: retail, laboratories, schools, federal buildings, healthcare centers, athletic facilities and religious institutions. What began as a vision by a third generation owner has developed into a unique company in the general contracting industry. In 2002, Matt Warner and Ron Main began collaborating on a plan to expand Warner Construction into a larger full service general contracting company. At the time, Ron brought with him over 15 years of experience in the construction industry and had worked with some of the largest general contracting companies in the Baltimore, MD and Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Together, the team set out to establish a general contracting company that offered a full range of construction services with all of the benefits and knowledge of large scale operations, as well as the up front approach and personalized service of a family run company. Their ability to realize the visions and needs of their clients at every level has given business owners and developers exactly what they were looking for and this is who Warner Construction is today!

Elder-Jones’ humble beginnings date back to September of 1971, with John Elder and Ray Jones working in a small basement office with one phone between the two of them. What started as a small company with two employees building spec homes and service stations gradually transitioned into one of the leading retail contractors in the country. Today we are a company over 50 employees strong, working with many of the top retailers, restaurants, and technology companies in the world.

It all started 28 years ago with a determined dance mom, Joy Ellis. She saw firsthand the demand to have dance supplies in the area, not just for her own children, but for the other dancers struggling to find convenient, affordable, high quality dancewear. Thus, grew the idea of Footlights. In 1991, Joy opened the doors of Footlights Dance & Theatre Boutique.

Joy’s natural ability for spotting quality materials as a seamstress led her to bringing in high end products at an affordable price, locally. She strived to bring as much variety as she could, to provide her community with everything they needed and more. As she established Footlights within the dance retail community as the go to dance shop, she made an impact on the vendors with her cutting-edge fitting techniques. Today, with over thirty years of experience, Joy is considered a master fitter by dance retailers and vendors across the nation.

As the company grew, her children grew up too. Working alongside Joy is her youngest, Joe. Joe grew up with Footlights, learning the ins and outs of the company from an early age. As he got older, Joy continued to share in the life of business with her son. Her legacy, passion and knowledge are carried on to the next generation with Joe at her side. Today, they run Footlights together, not just as partners, but as family. 

With three locations, Footlights is constantly looking for ways to be the most convenient and reliable source of high-quality dance supplies in the area. Without the constant support of local studios and dance communities, Footlights would not be where it is today.  My love for textiles goes back as far as I can remember. I love colors, textures, making things, and I especially love learning. About 15 years ago I decided to turn my love for making Folk Art into a business and became Primitive Homespuns. I started by making quilted pillows and wall hangings then moved on to animals. My mom and I spent countless hours in my little workshop at home sewing, stuffing and painting. My mom would joke that she was so bad at sewing that she once sewed her shirt to the sewing machine (LOL). But she was great at painting and accessorizing so we made a perfect team. In 2007 she died suddenly and life as I knew it was changed forever. My creative partner and silly sidekick was not there and quite frankly I didn’t want to continue. But something special happened. My dad, who had created many wonderful woodworking pieces over the years for himself and my brother and I, needed something to occupy his time. He started making small boxes, sconces and shelves and we started hitting the show circuit. We traveled through Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia doing Folk Art/ Antique shows and met some fantastic people along the way. In 2013 I stumbled upon a fabulous building in Downtown Frederick, MD. in a great area known as Shab Row. Something told me I needed to be there and a few days later we were signing a lease. We have had a remarkable 3 years there and look forward to many more. One of the rooms inside of our Primitive/ Colonial shop was dedicated to fiber arts and needle work. We carried wool fabric, linen, threads and patterns. I gave classes on select weekends in rug hooking, wool applique, punch needle and cross stitch. Space was very limited and there were times when we really had to squeeze to hold a class. 

In early 2016 I was given the opportunity to lease another property just two doors down from our shop. It is a beautiful log house dating back to the mid 1800’s and I knew right away what I would do with it. After many hours of hard work by my amazing dad and awesome husband we opened for business May 7th. I was so excited to have a shop that focuses on fiber arts and artists and a place where women (and men) can get together and be creative. The first floor is dedicated to supplies and the second floor is set up for classes and workshops or just a place to sit and hook/stitch. Primitive Homespuns began over 16 years ago in the spare bedroom of my house. I was a former art major and stay at home mom for two wonderful children looking for a way to get creative. So, I started sewing pillows and table runners. Then dolls and animals. I would handle the sewing and my mom would handle the stuffing. We participated in craft shows and church bazaars, slowly building our business. We were a perfect pairing of art and creativity with great energy and humor. 

​In June of 2007, my mom passed suddenly and without warning. To say our lives changed that day is an understatement. Mom was the best combination of funny and sweet. Our favorite thing to do was laugh...and laugh a lot, mainly at ourselves. But she never missed an opportunity to connect with people....friends and strangers alike. If you needed a hug, had great news to share or needed anything, she was there. We used to joke that she could make friends with someone in minutes.

​In her absence, my family grew to lean on each other and out of that grew another partnership....my dad and I. He had been woodworking for several years building furniture for my brother and I. So it was natural that we expand to include items from his workshop. 

​After several years of traveling to Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio to do shows, a series of crazy events lead me to the most wonderful area of downtown Frederick, MD. called Shab Row. I cannot explain how it all happened except to say we were meant to be here...I just knew it in my heart.

​We now have a wonderful shop filled with handmade items from the most talented craftsman. It is a place where we make new friends and old friends come to visit. We hope you stop by and become one of them. ~ Kathy & Family~
